Wim's call sign is Webracer. He was born in 1969, is maried and have one son. He lives in Belgium (100 km's of Brussels) in the middle of Europe and is dutch speaking. That's why he has choosen a adapted Flemish Lion as avatar.

He has lots of internet experience especially with content management systems. He had developed his own system Absolute with which it was possible to separate content from layout and did contain stuff like calendar, newsflashes (called headlines) etc.

He was really impressed by the power of Miro's MOS first but found it too expensive and especially to difficult to install so when he did found out there was a new open source iniative with a nice installer he became a big Mambo fan.

In summer 2003 he started his first public Mambo project. Soon all his websites became Mambo based and he started to follow discussion's on mamboportal.com and mamboserver.com.

He had however on reservation: at that moment Mambo did not had a good e-shop solution as OsCommerce was.

When he heard about Ted Joffs MamCom project(port of Oscommerce to Mambo) he wanted to help. It took however several months and the help of Dave Daoust before he came in contact with Ted. MamCom was having lot of delay at that moment because the first developers cancelled their work. Then John Long started working on MamCom.

Wim got an new release from Dave and started testing. Ted impressed with his rapport, asked him to contact John Long. Soon John & Wim did work nearly every day together.

Wim was really impressed by the programming skills of John and especially his dealing with deadlines and communiation skills.

So he asked John to become a team. The rest is history: mambobrothers.com was born.

BACKGROUND
Wim Steynen started his first project on the internet in the early nineties: NetShare. Netshare was a project for people in his region to learn them about the internet but also to promote his region on the net. Wim was in charge of this project together with his fellow Erik Koopmans. Together they created stvv.com which became soon the second best soccer site in the world. Only the site of Manchester United was better at that moment. Not NetShare was claming this but several independant researchers.

Wim became project manager in Telesoft, a Belgian computer company, and created several early web projects for customers like the European community and started the development of Mercis, a desktop application for invoicing, stock, pos etc.

Then he started his own company C21. Some time later he created an new department inside this company called WebDeezign.com together with a new partner.

WebDeezign.com did interesting projects like the internet newschannel with videostreaming TvLokaal.com. After some time the relation between Wim and his partner became worse.  

Wim took the decission to leave the stvv.com team (his ex-businesspartner does this job now) and today it is a good but not an exceptional site.
